"North Carolina-based steel drummer Jonathan Scales makes the pans fit snugly in unconventional musical spaces. On PLOT/SCHEME he serves up odd-time fusion and funk alongside Flecktone's saxophonist Jeff Coffin, and brings in veteran stick slinger
Jeff Sipe and newcomer Ryan Lassiter to handle the drumming duties. Jam master Sipe pumps a righteous groove under the feisty sparring of Scales and guitarist Tim Marsh on "Old Jailhouse" and beautifully nailing the combinations of sixes and fours on Scales' complex "Room of Maps." Displaying a musical touch with some edge, Lassiter sticks the ensemble parts on "This Road" and lays back in the pocket on "Heart Engineer."

In addition to these bands Tim plays jazz under the name Tim Marsh Jazz. These shows feature bebop and swing favorites as well as Tim's original compositions.
Other side projects include Character Farm and the Jon Scales Quartet. Both of these projects feature Jon Scales on steel pans. Character Farm also features Joel Spencer on flute and a progressive jazz, mostly original repertoire.
Jon Scales Quartet is a rotating cast that explores the original compositions of pannist, Jon Scales.

In the recent migration from Boone to Asheville we find a group of musicians determined to break into the music scene of the big city. Nik Hope, Ben Bjorlie, Jonathan Scales, Brian Swenk and Tim Marsh have all made the jump in recent months.
